It’s been a busy busy summer so far! Very hard to keep up with any type of regular updates, but working on some really great projects that will all be share-able soon!
In the meantime, wanted to post this image I contributed to Jazz and Draw— a really cool site run by talented Belgian illustrator, Philippe Debongnie. He invites artists each week to share illustrations of, or inspired by, jazz music — creating a great outlet for discovery of both artists and musicians. When Phillipe reached out to me, I was immediately excited to combine 2 of my favorite things: art and music!
This is a drawing of Mykia Jovan, an extremely talented young woman from New Orleans. Her performances are hauntingly beautiful and delivered with soul, emotion & passion the likes of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. She covers alot of jazz standards, but does so with her own electic vocal style—she’s certainly one to watch as her career continues to grow. One of my favorites is her cover of Erykah Badu’s “Green Eyes”.
I really enjoyed just pure drawing here—a little bit of a watercolor wash and some pen work on top of a pencil sketch—very unfinished, and wholly inspired by the music.
